Enhance the Serratus: Unlocking the Golden Fleece

A chiseled serratus anterior is the trademark of a shredded physique. The serratus refers to the gill looking striations where the front of the lat connects to the rib cage, aka the riblets.

I have heard people say pull-ups don't work the serratus. In my relatively limited experience, that is a load of shit. Anyone who has paid their dues on the pull-up bar with low enough body fat should visibly show some development in this region. I have found one exercise however, to enhance the serratus, while building the lower lats. Everyone's insertions are different, some being naturally higher than others. Regardless, you should undoubtedly be able to add some extra feathers to your wingspan, as well as give your spread a king cobra effect. Here is the key to unlocking the Golden Fleece.

Close Grip Chin-Ups
Start with a narrow grip, closer than shoulder width, pull your shoulders foreword, and clinch the lower lats as you pull yourself up. Really focus on the flex in that region and squeeze them tight.
Same deal pausing every 3rd part of the way down. Focus on squeezing the sides of your body instead of the biceps.

Superset them back to back with pull-ups to get a good shred going. Try this out!

Set 1 - 10 pullups +10 close grips
Set 2 - 10 pullups + 7 close grips
Set 3 - 7 pullups   + 7 close grips
Set 4 - As many as you can until their dead!

This is an excruciating superset, but well worth the effort! Work your way up to it by completing all the reps even if you have to do them one by one. After you complete the set, take a couple minutes off and hit the next one. If you can make it all the way through each superset without stopping then you officially have wings of steel.

Yes, close grip chins are key for adding striations to the bottom of the serratus. Back day coming up? Knock 'em dead kid!
